What advice do video game developers have for applying to Creative Europe?

On 8 February around 40 video game developers came together for a workshop and panel discussion in London, ahead of the 2 March deadline for Creative Europe’s Video Games development fund.

At the event, potential applicants were given insight from four international developers who have previously received funding for their projects.

Brjann Sigurgeirsson (Image & Form), Dan Pinchbeck (The Chinese Room), Kunal Patel-Smith (Cape Copenhagen) and Barbara Kułaga (Bloober Team), discussed:

  • the funding – why they applied for the MEDIA grant and what they spent the money on
  • the application process – what stage they were at when they applied and what materials they submitted
  • match-funding – where and how they raised the extra funds
  • and - significantly for the Creative Europe scheme - narrative, with each developer explaining the role of narrative and storytelling in their game(s), demonstrating just how varied narrative games can be.
