Ukraine joins the Creative Europe programme
Ukraine has become the third neighbourhood country to join the Creative Europe programme since Moldova joined the list of countries eligible to take part in March.
Tibor Navracsics, the Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport, was in the capital, Kiev, on 19 November 2015 to sign the agreement and to meet with representatives of the Ukrainan cultural and creative industries.
He said: "I am proud to welcome Ukraine to the Creative Europe family. This will strengthen its cultural and creative sectors economic and artistic capacity and deepen people-to-people contacts between Ukraine and other countries participating in Creative Europe. Ukraine has already played a constructive role in building the cultural dimension of our partnership with Eastern neighbourhood countries. Today's agreement comes as a complement to this and will strengthen our co-operation."
Navracsics also had meetings with Arseniy Yatseniuk, Prime Minister of Ukraine, Vyacheslav Kyrylenko, Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Culture, Serhiy Kvit, Minister of Education and Science, and Igor Zhdanov, Minister of Youth and Sport.
The Creative Europe agreement with Ukraine will give full membership of the Culture sub-programme and partial participation to the MEDIA sub-programme, enabling them to access funding for training, festivals, audience development and market access activities. Ukrainian participation in the Culture sub-programme will allow its creative and cultural sectors to benefit from collaborating with partners across Europe, cultural cooperation projects, literary translation schemes, cultural networks and platforms.
