Sir Michael Caine to be presented with an honorary EFA Award

At the 28th European Film Awards on 12 December in Berlin, British actor Sir Michael Caine will be presented with the Honorary Award of the EFA President and Board.

The award, which has only been presented twice before in the history of the European Film Awards – to EFA’s founding member, the Portuguese director Manoel de Oliveira and to French actor Michel Piccoli - recognises Caine’s major contribution to film. He has performed in more than 100 titles during his career and provided some of cinema’s most unforgettable experiences.

Agnieszka Holland, Chair of the EFA Board and EFA President, Wim Wenders welcomed the presentation of the award:

"We have come to the decision that we are long overdue on paying special tribute to Sir Michael Caine. This recognition to an outstanding film personality is coming from the bottom of our hearts."

Michael Caine is also currently nominated for his performance in Paolo Sorrentino’sYouth and will be at the ceremony on 12 December to accept the award.

A live stream of the event will be broadcast from 7pm GMT on the EFA website.
