MIA 2019 unveils its project selection
MIA - Mercato Internazionale Audiovisivo - has announced the 47 projects, made up of films, TV series and documentaries that will participant in its 2019 edition (16 - 20 October).
The Rome-based co-production event, which is supported through Creative Europe's Access to Markets scheme, provides a space where audiovisual professionals can network, pitch and scout the latest projects.
Included in the 16 project selection for the Film Co-Production Market & Pitching Forum is Sally Potter's title Alba, produced by UK-based company Adventure Pictures. Selected projects will be in contention for the Eurimages Co-Production Development Award, a €20,000 cash prize awarded to a project that best corresponds with Eurimages's co-production criteria.
This is not the first time Sally Potter has been at the market with a project, having previously attended to pitch The Party in 2015 and her latest feature Molly (starring Laura Linney and Javier Bardem) in 2016. In attendance in 2017 was Isabel Anderton's project The Tentmaster's Daughter, a film which recently received funding from Creative Europe through the Single Project scheme.
A further five projects with UK involvement have been chosen to participant in the Drama Series Pitching Forum, which aims to facilitate and accelerate partnerships for the development and creation of new drama productions on an international level. They are:
- Alex in Wonderland (UK) produced by Psychonaut
- Brandenbury (UK) produced by BlackBox Multimedia and Open Book Productions
- Her Horror (UK) produced by RubyRock Pictures and Clipper Media
- The Island (UK/Italy) produced by BlackBox Multimedia
- Reset (UK/Germany) produced by Clipper Media
Lastly, this year's MIA Doc Pitching Forum selection includes 15 projects, of which one is from the UK:
- The Mystery of DB Cooper by John Dower, produced by Minnow Films
