The Looking-Glass Sisters

Creative Europe-supported The Looking-Glass Sisters hits the shelves

You can now pick up a copy of a new translation of The Looking-Glass Sisters by Gøhril Gabrielsen, the latest novel published by Peirene Press. Translated by John Irons from the original Norwegian, The Looking-Glass Sisters is the third and final novel in a series called Chance Encounters, which was co-funded by Creative Europe. In 2014, Peirene Press was awarded a grant of €20,043 for the translation, publication and promotion of three novels through the Literary Translation funding opportunity

Set in northern Norway, the story follows two middle-aged sisters who live a remote and lonely life together, until one day, a man turns up.

"This is a tragedy about a woman who yearns for love but ends up in a painfully destructive conflict with her sister. It is also a story about loneliness – both geographical and psychological. Facing the prospect of a life without love, we fall back into isolating delusions at exactly the moment when we need to connect." Meike Ziervogel, writer and publisher of Peirene Press.
