Creative Europe at the 74th Venice Film Festival

The next edition of the European Film Forum takes place during the Venice Film Festival with the European Commission organising two events on 3 and 4 September 2017.
The first event ‘Virtual Gets Real’ explores the industrial and societal effects of Virtual Reality. It will take place on Sunday 3 September, from 3:00pm to 6:00pm.
The second event ‘Shaping Together the MEDIA Programme of the Future’ is devoted to the EU's support for the audiovisual industry. It is expected that the newly appointed Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society, Mariya Gabriel, will be sharing her perspective on the current and future MEDIA programme during the event. The event will take place on Monday 4 September, from 10:00am to 11:45am.
Both events are open to all festival delegates. More information about the programme will be available on the European Commission website closer to the date.
Promotion of European Works Online Info Session
Italian Pavilion Tropicana Sala Conferenze, Excelsior Hotel, Venice Lido
Creative Europe Desk Italy invites festival attendees to a special session on the support available through Creative Europe’s Promotion of European Works Online scheme. Venice Gap-Financing Market (1-3 September 2017)
The three-day Venice Gap-Financing Market event will present 47 projects from around the world in the final stages of development and funding. Funded by Creative Europe’s Access to Markets scheme, The objectives of the event are to aid European producers with completing the financing on their projects and creating a networking opportunity between producers, distributors, sales agents and post-production companies). This year, 15 European producers are in search of completion funding for their projects (having already secured 70%).
Of the projects selected, two have UK involvement:
- The Dream Girl by Maurizio Braucci (Italy, Ireland, Belgium, UK),
- My Girl Matryoshka by Nir Saar (Israel, UK)
Biennale College Cinema Virtual Reality (31 August – 5 September 2017)
Funded through Creative Europe’s Training scheme, this year sees the first edition of the Biennial College Cinema - Virtual Reality. Nine producer/director teams will work on the development of Virtual Reality projects lasting between 10 and 20 minutes. The course offers the teams support in every aspect of the creative process, as well as audience building, identifying target markets and finding funding.
Of the, one has UK involvement:
- My Girl Matryoshka by Nir Saar (Israel) and Kevin Molloy (UK).

MEDIA Films Compete for the Golden Lion
11 MEDIA-supported films screen in this year's festival including five in Competition, including Lean On Pete by British director Andrew Haigh. UK producers The Bureau Film Company received funding to develop the film in 2016.
The Venice International Film Festival runs from 30 August to 9 September 2017.
