Berlinale's World Cinema Fund announce results

At the 30th jury session of the Berlinale World Cinema Fund, the juries recommended contributing to the funding of 13 film projects.

Since its establishment in October 2004, the WCF has awarded production and distribution funding to a total of 222 projects, with a particular focus on innovative cinema from countries with a low production capacity.

This year, four film projects - from Argentina, Ecuador and the Phillipines have been proposed for production funding. Three further recommendations for funding were announced within the framework of the additional WCF Europe programme, which was launched in 2015 with the support of Creative Europe's International Co-Production Funds scheme. These include...

  • Royal Court, directed by Julia da Simone (Brazil, Portugal): €30,000
  • Anatomy of Time, directed by Jakrawai Nilthamrong (Thailand): €40,000
  • La Jauría, directed by Andrés Ramírez Pulido (Colombia): €30,000

Additionally, one film was supported through the distribution arm of WCF Europe: The Harvesters, directed by Etienne Kallos (South Africa, France, Poland).

Among the funding recommendations are six projects by Berlinale Talents alumni, the Creative Europe-supported training programme for emerging film professionals.
