18 UK cinemas to participate in European Art Cinema Day

European Art Cinema Day (EACD) returns on 15 October with a special programme of European arthouse film across UK, European and international screens.

With over 400 venues set to participate across the continent, cinemas from Orkney to Bristol have joined forces as part of this Europe-wide celebration. From hand painted masterpieces, to scathing satires and contemporary classics, this year’s programme of films reflects the diversity and depth of European cinema at its best.

Ruben Östlund’s Palme d’Or winner The Square will receive special preview screenings across eleven participating UK cinemas. Elsewhere new releases Loving Vincent, L'Amant Double and Sally Potter’s The Party will be shown under the EACD banner, as well as classics La Haine and The Battle of Algiers.

European Art Cinema Day was launched in 2016 by CICAE (International Confederation of Arthouse Cinemas) in partnership with Europa Cinemas. The initiative, which is funded by Creative Europe, is designed to celebrate European arthouse film and venues through specially curated programmes including previews, children’s films and cinema classics with a wide variety of guests, events and exhibitions.

The year’s initiative is supported by prominent patrons and ambassadors including The Vice-President of the European Parliament, Evelyne Gebhart;  French and German Culture Ministers, Françoise Nyssen and Monika Grütters, as well as Golden Palm winners Ruben Östlund and Laurent Cantent.
