BFI release half-year UK box office and production statistics

The British Film Institute (BFI) have released new statistics which show that UK cinemas have seen a surge in admissions, totalling 83 million visits during the first half of the year. This is 10% higher than the same period last year.
The figures were compiled by the BFI’s Research and Statistics Unit, based on the total of 358 films that were released in the UK and Ireland in the six months leading up to 12 July this year.

Launch of CinEd, a new European cinema education programme

CinEd, a new educational programme about European cinema and led by the Institut français in Paris, France, has launched. This European project is one of the new initiatives to be funded through Creative Europe's MEDIA sub-programme Audience Development scheme this year.

German film wins Europa Cinemas Label in Karlovy Vary

Father (Babai), the debut feature from German director Visar Morina, was awarded the Europa Cinemas Label at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
Created in 2003, the Europa Cinemas Label aims to enhance the promotion, circulation and box office runs of award-winning European films on the networks’ cinema screens across Europe.

Projects for European Gap-Financing Market revealed

La Biennale di Venezia (Venice Film Festival) has announced the selected projects for the second edition of its European Gap-Financing Market.
Funded for the first time this year by Creative Europe’s Access to Markets scheme, the market will take place from 4 - 5 September 2015.

Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia joins MEDIA sub-programme

The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) has now been granted full participation in Creative Europe's MEDIA sub-programme, having aligned their legislation with that of the European Union. As a result, audiovisual professionals and works from FYROM are fully eligible for MEDIA sub-programme support.
