Hundreds of producers, directors and audiovisual professionals attended the annual MEDIA Day held at the Berlinale on 15 February. On the occasion of this first European Film Forum of 2016, the day’s discussions focused on digital innovation, highlighting a selection of state-of-the-art Creative Europe-supported projects and European Commission initiatives relating to new models in online distribution, film promotion, the societal impact of documentary and curbing illegal downloading.

Creative Europe-funded organisation MEDIA Salles has published annual statistics on cinema admissions in Europe and worldwide digitisation, showing an overall increase in numbers for both cinemagoers and digital projectors compared to 2014. Paolo Protti, President of MEDIA Salles, remarked that 2015 was a good year for European cinemas.

Organised by the European Commission, the MEDIA day at the Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) will include the first European Film Forum of the year, this time with a focus on digital innovation.
