MEDIA films on UK screens: December

Jacek loves heavy metal, his girlfriend and his dog. His family, his small hometown, his fellow parishioners all see him as an amusing freak. Jacek works at the construction site for what is supposed to become the tallest statue of Jesus in the World. When a severe accident disfigures him completely, all eyes turn to him as he undergoes the first facial transplant in the country.

The Favourite wins a record 10 prizes at 2018 BIFAs

Yorgos Lanthimos' period romp The Favourite won Best British Independent Film, Best Director, Best Actress (for Olivia Colman), Best Supporting Actress (for Rachel Weisz) and Best Screenplay at last night's BIFA awards, taking its total up to ten, including the previously announced craft awards. The achievement marks a BIFA record for prizes taken home by a single film. 

Creative Europe supported the film under the previous MEDIA programme in 2003, with a €50,000 Single Project grant awarded to Scarlet Films to aid its development. 

Consortium wins EU tender to bring European films to the rest of the world

More than 70 EU delegations worldwide currently organise their own festivals of European films in order to reach out to local audiences. Building on these existing initiatives,the European Commission has announced the results of its call for tender to strengthen the EU's ability to engage meaningfully with audiences in third countries, i.e. countries outside of Europe,through European Film Festivals.
