European Commission announces Digital Single Market strategy

On 8 May 2015, the European Commission revealed its strategy for a Digital Single Market (DSM) - combining the 28 European territories into a common market for digital goods - which include film and television programmes.

The 16 initiatives, published by Commission Vice-President Andrus Ansip, propose the establishment of a unified and borderless regulatory framework for the internet across Europe. This affects the film and television industry through VoD platforms and content streaming services or online videos, for example.

Sheffield Doc/Fest, the UK’s biggest documentary and digital media festival, returns this June for its 22nd year, bringing together the international documentary family for another stimulating programme of films, special events and retrospectives, curated by Claire Aguilar, the festival’s newly appointed director of programming. With the full programme now announced, the events will take place from 5 to 10 June 2015, featuring 150 screenings of short and feature-length documentaries.

Children’s Film First Conference tickets on sale

The Children’s Film First Conference is a new, Europe-wide conference for anybody who works with children to educate and inspire them about film, run with the support of the Creative Europe - MEDIA sub-programme.

Delegate passes are now on sale for the event which takes place on 24 September 2015 at the Brussels City Theatre in Belgium, preceded by a networking evening on 23 September 2015.

The Invisible Boy wins EFA Young Audience Award

The 2015 EFA Young Audience Award has been decided, with young film lovers from across Europe voting for The Invisible Boy by Gabriele Salvatores. 

Participants aged 12-14 from across 25 European cities watched the three nominated films on Young Audience Film Day (3 May 2015) before discussing them and choosing their favourite. The results were then reported via video conference to Germany with the awards ceremony being streamed live on-line.
