Creative Europe Desk UK has today published two biennial reports outlining Creative Europe support for the UK’s cultural, creative and audiovisual sectors in 2014 and 2015. The reports found that Creative Europe has supported 230 UK cultural and creative organisations and audiovisual companies as well as the cinema distribution of 84 UK films in other European countries with grants totalling €40 million during the first two years of the programme.

New report: Cultural and creative spillovers in Europe

A European research project has published a report into the ‘spillover’ effects of public investment in arts, culture and the creative industries.

The term ‘spillover’ describes how investment in arts and culture has broader impacts on the economy and society and, within Europe, this is increasingly being quoted as one of the key policy drivers for public investment in the sector.

Advocate Europe: apply for up to €50,000 for your idea

Advocate Europe

Advocate Europe is looking for original and transnational project ideas that encourage collaboration and cohesion in Europe. Grants of up to €50,000, plus mentoring and networking opportunities, are available for up to 12 pioneering proposals. 

Advocate Europe is an annual competition for European initiatives and projects, which is run by MitOst and Liquid Democracy and funded by Stiftung Mercator. The projects selected in 2015 included:

PEACE IV: a new EU funding programme for Northern Ireland and the border region of Ireland

The European Commission has adopted a new EU Programme for Peace and Reconciliation, PEACE IV, to support peace and reconciliation in Northern Ireland and the border region of Ireland. This cross-border cooperation programme, one of the four PEACE programmes taking place in the EU and with a budget of €269 million, supports activity in four key areas:

European Commission announces results of calls on creative sector research

European Commission

The results of a series of calls for creative sector research and pilot projects, published by the European Commission in August and September 2015, have now been announced. The European Commission is keen to conduct research into current trends and to identify potential for growth and innovation in the creative sector. The findings and outcomes from these studies and pilot projects help to shape the development of their policies in the future.

Ukraine joins the Creative Europe programme

Ukraine has become the third neighbourhood country to join the Creative Europe programme since Moldova joined the list of countries eligible to take part in March.  

Tibor Navracsics, the Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport, was in the capital, Kiev, on 19 November 2015 to sign the agreement and to meet with representatives of the Ukrainan cultural and creative industries.
