Leeds International Film Festival receives MEDIA funding

The latest results for the Film Festivals scheme have been published, with 34 festivals from 18 countries receiving funding. The successful applicants share €1,695,000 including the 31st edition of Leeds International Film Festival which received a grant of €60,000. Other festivals supported include the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), Interfilm Berlin, the International Documentary Festival Amsterdam (IDFA), Filmfestival Cottbus and the Zagreb Film Festival.

The scheme supports festivals that programme a majority of European films from at least 15 countries participating in the MEDIA sub-programme and in particular those that demonstrate a commitment to developing new audiences and increasing levels of film literacy through various outreach activities.

In total there were 118 applications from 32 countries submitted to the 27 April deadline (call reference EACEA/16/2016).

Among the projects to receive grants, three focus on documentary, six on animation, two are short film festivals and two are specifically for young audiences.
