The Voice of Culture

Join a discussion on the role of culture in the integration of refugees and migrants

The Voice of Culture has announced an open call for applications to attend a brainstorming session on the role of culture in promoting the inclusion of refugees and migrants on 9-10 June 2016. The European Commission is interested to hear the views of representatives from the cultural and creative sectors so apply by 15 February to contribute your ideas and opinions to this session. Travel and accommodation costs are covered by The Voice of Culture.

Last year EU Member States’ Culture Ministers agreed that, after providing for migrants' and refugees' immediate needs, social and economic integration is vital and that the arts have an important role to play in the process of their integration. EU Culture Ministers decided to create a new working group of Member State migration and refugee crisis experts to explore how culture and the arts can bring together individuals and increase participation in cultural and societal life. The European Parliament is also currently preparing its own report on intercultural dialogue, led by Julie Ward MEP for North West England, for adoption in early 2016.

The Voice of Culture ‒ Structured Dialogue between the European Commission and the Cultural Sector aims to enable the voice of cultural professionals to be heard at the European level and to strengthen the advocacy capacity of the cultural sector in policy debates on culture at European level. The Voice of Culture provides a framework for discussions between EU civil society stakeholders and the European Commission with regard to culture.
