The TIDE Experiment launches first Festival-To-Date release
The TIDE Experiment - the initiative supported by Creative Europe’s MEDIA sub-programme committed to testing innovative distribution methods - is joining forces with The Festival Agency to launch a new ‘Festival-To-Date’ release model.
Now in its third year, the TIDE Experiment will now experiment with simultaneously premièring titles at film festivals and on Video-on-Demand (VoD) platforms.
Through the Festival-to-Date model, the TIDE Experiment aims to widen the potential audience of European films that have been curated and endorsed by festival programmers. Equally, the new approach could grant additional exposure to the festival by instantly reaching out to a wider audience through the use of cross-promotional marketing tools.
The multiple releases are planned to coincide with country-specific festival calendars.
The first release is 6 Desires, part of The Mark Cousins Hibrow Trilogy, along with Life May Be and Here Be Dragons. Following its American première at Sundance, 6 Desires starts its European tour at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, followed by FID-Marseille in France, Karlovy Vary and New Horizons in Poland this month. 6 Desires will be presented at each festival, whilst the complete trilogy will exclusively be available on VoD, through iTunes and Google Play.
See director Mark Cousins talking about this release model and how it works for his new trilogy in the video below.
