Scottish Distrify Media expands to China
Scottish Video-on-Demand (VoD) platform Distrify Media, which is supported by Creative Europe's MEDIA sub-programme through the Online Distribution scheme, has signed a deal with the Chinese internet video player CNTV and its digital arm, Future TV. Through the agreement, the company gains a permanent Chinese base at the headquarters of Future TV in Tianjin, China, in addition to its existing offices in Glasgow and Tel Aviv.
The partnership will see Distrify Media develop and launch a new VoD platform, making Future TV's content available around the world and distributing locally produced films internationally. Distrify Media’s current catalogue of titles will also be made available on the new platform, reaching millions of new viewers.
CEO Andy Green said, "We have been working hard to grow the business rapidly over the past year. With the exceptional work of UKTI and ongoing support from Scottish Development International and the European Commission, we are now in a position to enter into such a significant and unique agreement. Our partnership will benefit our existing rights holders and distributors as well as forging new ground in China, a priority territory for any content producer or distributor. The deal will also allow us to showcase Chinese content around the world and find new audiences."
Xiong Zhihui, CEO of Future TV, added "Distrify Media is a world-renowned video platform with substantial operational experience. Its advanced video player technology and data measurement system has helped it to successfully launch into many countries worldwide. The partnership is an alliance of giants. This integration will promote Future TV’s premium video content around the world on one hand, and on the other, enrich Distrify Media’s offer to its audience."
The company's continuing expansion was made possible by a $1 million investment, led by international venture syndicate ESM Investments, alongside continuing support from other investment bodies.
