Speakers announced for Wales Games Development Show

The Wales Games Development Show, supported by Creative Europe Desk UK – Wales, returns for its fourth edition with a series of masterclasses from leading games professionals. Taking place on 19 June 2015, the event will see Cardiff City Hall turn into a centre for the celebration of computer games, with game makers, game players and game enthusiasts of all ages and experience attending. More than 40 leading Welsh games companies and makers of games creation tools will be exhibiting alongside a series of masterclasses, workshops and one-to-one surgeries.

Speakers and programme highlights include:

• Katherine Bidwell from State of Play, developer of the BAFTA-award-winning game Lumino City, who will give the BAFTA keynote speech

• “Building a LEGO Hero – Piece by Piece” from Ralph Ferneyhough, former Senior Games Mechanics Programmer at Traveller’s Tales; a practical talk on the elements that go into creating the playable mechanics for a great game

• “How to fund your first, second and third indie game” from Dan Da Rocha, ex-Newport alumni, co-creator of Q.U.B.E and MD of Toxic Games and Mudvark

• A talk by Jory Prum, multi-award-winning voice and sound designer (The Walking Dead, Knights of the Old Republic, The Wolf Among Us, Broken Age, Brütal Legend, Among the Sleep)

• “Audio for Games” from a panel of experts including Stafford Bawler, award-winning sound designer for Monument Valley (Forza Motorsport 4, Colin McRae: Dirt, Dogs of War)

• John Broomhall, whose 25 years in games includes the X-Com, Grand Prix, Civilization, MechWarrior and UFO franchises

• Anastasios “Taz” Brakis, the creator of the Fabric sound engine and sound engineer at Lionhead, Climax and Studio Gobo

• Jory Prum

In addition, there will be workshops on topics such as how the BBC turns brands into games and making games in Unity, as well as the BAFTA Cymru Award for Games & Interactive Experience.
