Mapping the animation industry report to be presented at MIFA
The European Commission and the European Audiovisual Observatory are organising an animation workshop at this year’s Mifa animation market in Annecy. The Observatory will present the first results of its major research project: Mapping the Animation Industry in Europe.
The research has been undertaken by the Strasbourg-based Observatory and financed by the Commission. The first publication resulting from this research – a report entitled 'Focus on Animation' - will be presented and distributed at the workshop which takes place on 17 June 2015.
Lucia Recalde Langarica, Head of the MEDIA Unit, will open the workshop and present the context in which the European Commission decided to fund this research project and to mandate the European Audiovisual Observatory to carry out the research. Marta Jimenez, who leads the project at the Observatory, will then present initial findings, looking at key indicators such as:
The volume of feature animation produced in Europe
The significance of European animation on television
Performance of European animation
The presentations will be followed by a panel discussion on “Mapping the Animation Industry in Europe”, with experts from the industry and the European institutions. Christophe Erbes, animation expert and consultant, will moderate the discussion.
The Observatory is carrying out its research and has produced the first report – Focus on Animation – with the help of data provided by CITIA and CARTOON.
A second report entitled 'Mapping the Animation Industry in Europe' will be delivered at the end of the year. It will be made available online following its initial presentation at an autumn conference later this year. This study will build on the data outlined in the first and provide a more in-depth analysis of the industry.
