Mike Leigh’s Pirates of Penzance starts its run at the ENO

Film director Mike Leigh brings his new production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s comic opera The Pirates of Penzance to ENO this month. 

Supported as a Cooperation Project through Creative Europe’s Culture sub-programme, the production is a collaboration between the English National Opera, Le Theatres de Ville de Luxembourg and Saarlandishes Staatstheater in Saarbrucken, Germany.

Following performances at the London Coliseum in May from 9 May - 27 June 2015, this production will travel to ENO’s co-producing partners at Les Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg and Théâtre de Caen in October, and the Saarländische Staatstheater in November.

The Pirates of Penzance will also be shown live in cinemas across the UK on 19 May as part of ENO Screen.

Mike Leigh's recent film Mr Turner receIved funding for Distribution and Development through Creative Europe's MEDIA sub-programme and the previous MEDIA Programme (2007-2013).
