Harald Trettenbrein

New Head of MEDIA Unit at Executive Agency for Education, Audiovisual and Culture

Harald Trettenbrein has been appointed as the Agency (EACEA)'s Head of Unit for the Creative Europe - MEDIA programme, taking over the role from Sari Varitainen. 

Born in Austria, Harald has worked in academia and as a lawyer in the Austrian Prime Minister's office in Vienna, drafting the bill that introduced private radio in the country.

He was also responsible for the last revision of the European regulatory framework which led to the adoption of the Audiovisual Media Services Directive.

He has occupied various roles within the European Commission - initially as Head of Public Relations at the European Commission Representation in Austria, and more recently as Deputy Head of Unit for the Creative Europe - MEDIA programme.

Harald Trettenbrein will now lead the MEDIA Unit as part of the Creative Europe programme. Harald is enthusiastic and excited about the role he is taking on. He outlined that he aims to bring "this well run programme the political attention it deserves".
