UK project selected for TorinoFilmsLab's ScriptLab 2019

The TorinoFilmLab has revealed the 20 feature projects and five story editor trainees invited to participate in the 2019 edition of its ScriptLab, an initiative funded by Creative Europe's Training scheme focusing on the development of fictional feature film scripts in early development stage.

One UK project has been selected in this year's line-up. Moin Hussain - a 2018 Screen Star of Tomorrow - will be attending with his project Birchanger Green, which tells the story of a man who convinces himself he is a hybrid child, placed on Earth to fulfill a greater mission.

Alumni of the TorinoScriptLab, whose films have gone on to received MEDIA funding include:

  • The Wait (L'Attesa), Italy/France - attended the workshop in 2015 and went on to receive distribution funding
  • The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki, Finland/Sweden/Germany - attended the workshop in 2014 and went on to receive distribution funding for its release in over 30 countries, including the UK courtesy of MUBI.
  • A Ciambra (Italy/Brazil/US/France/Germany/Sweden) - attended the workshop in 2015 and went on to receive distribution funding for its release in seven countries.
  • Alcarras (Spain) -writer-director Carla Simón attended the workshop in 2018 and recently went on to win the Eurimages Co-Production Development Award at Berlinale 2019.

Beginning in March, this year's participants will be paired up with international filmmakers to develop their original or adapted scripts. The programme consists of three week-long workshop residencies and two online sessions. The ScriptLab culminates with a final presentation at the TorinoFilmLab Meeting Event in November, when the 20 participants will pitch their projects to an international audience of producers, sales agents, and other film professionals. They’ll also have the opportunity to have one-to-one meetings with key decision makers in the industry and see their projects included in the TFL Catalogue.
