Recap: COLLABORATE! Forum on International Working
What is the true value of European working in the creative sector?
Over 100 professionals spanning cultural and audiovisual sectors gathered at the Rich Mix for the Creative Europe Desk UK Forum on International Working COLLABORATE! on Thursday 13 July to discuss how and why we work across borders.
Keynote speeches came from Ruth Mackenzie, Artistic Director of Holland Festival, Amsterdam and of Théâtre du Châtelet, Paris; Rebecca Walton, EU Regional Director at the British Council; and Mike Stubbs, Director of FACT.
Seven inspirational 'flash presentations' from beneficiaries showed the diversity and reach of Creative Europe projects in the UK, with contributors ranging from MUBI’s VP of Content Bobby Allen on innovation in offering film on demand, to Lucy Latham of Julie's Bicycle conversing on climate change, to Jamal Jameel, an Iraqi photographer working to integrate refugees in Manchester through art, to Flip Kulakiewicz from Centre of Moving Image discussing the 'Moving Cinema' project, which trains young people to become film programmers.
Presentations were followed by lively breakout discussions that examined how collaborating within Europe is critical for building audiences, developing skills, innovating and adapting.
Ruth Mackenzie’s provocative speech called for greater inclusion in the sector, identifying the EU referendum result as a critical opportunity to involve people from different geographical and economic backgrounds.
