Nine MEDIA films nominated for BIFAs

Nine films that received support through Creative Europe's MEDIA sub-programme have been nominated for the 22nd British Independent Film Awards (BIFAs), which were announced today. 

A total of 43 feature films (of which 38 are British) are nominated across 23 eligible categories. 

MEDIA-supported nominees include:

  • Beats, directed by Brian Welsh (Most Promising Newcomer, Debut Screenwriter, Best Cinematography, Best Music, Best Sound). The film received Automatic Distribution support for its releases in Sweden, Slovakia and Czech Republic.
  • Judy, directed by Rupert Gould (Best Actress, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Make-Up & Hair, Best Production Design). The film received Automatic Distribution support for its release in Greece.
  • Diego Maradona, directed by Asif Kapadia (Best Director, Best Documentary, Best Editing, Best Music, Best Sound). The film received Automatic Distribution support for its release in the Czech Republic. 
  • Sorry We Missed You, directed by Ken Loach (Best Screenplay, Best Actor). The film received support through the Sales Agents scheme. 
  • Yuli, directed by Icíar Bollaín (Best Supporting Actor). The film received Creative Europe funding through both the Automatic and Selective Distribution schemes. 
  • Vita & Virginia, directed by Chanya Button (Best Supporting Actress). The film received Automatic Distribution support for its releases in Austria, Germany and France. 
  • Monos, directed by Alejandro Landes (Best Foreign Film). The film received support through HBF+ Europe: Minority Co-Production support, one of the funds awarded a grant in the International Co-Production Funds scheme.
  • Portrait of Lady On Fire, directed by Céline Sciamma (Best Foreign Film). The film received support through the Automatic Distribution scheme. 
  • A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon, directed by Will Becher, Richard Phelan (Debut Director, Best Effects). The film received support through the Automatic Distribution scheme for its release in Iceland.
