European Film Promotion reveal their Shooting Stars of 2018
European Film Promotion has revealed its Shooting Stars of 2018, highlighting up-and-coming acting talent from across the continent.
Their list of ten rising talents includes British actress, playwright, screenwriter and poet Michaela Coel, best known for her BAFTA-winning hit series Chewing Gum which is based on her own play.
The selection jury commented: "The energetic and fascinating Michaela Coel blew the jury away in every one of her scenes in the musical comedy Been So Long. Bold and entirely genuine, she is wholly in control of her character and has a completely natural way of combining musicality and comedy with poetic tenderness, in an utterly explosive performance."
This year's stars will be unveiled at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2018. Ahead of the ceremony at the Berlinale, the candidates will take part in a weekend of networking with various industry professionals, one-to-one meetings with casting directors and talent agents, and a special presentation to the international media.
Since its first showcase in 1998, nearly 300 European Shooting Stars have been presented at the Berlin International Film Festival. The event, whose past participants include Daniel Craig, Rachel Weisz, Alicia Vikander, and Carey Mulligan, is backed by Creative Europe’s MEDIA Programme.
