Catch up with the action from the 20th Europa Cinemas conference
Hundreds of film professionals gathered at the 20th Europa Cinemas conference in Bucharest at the end of November to discuss the challenges facing the exhibition sector.
From debates on digital marketing to discussions about cinema’s place in the community, the three-day event saw representatives from the 1,126 cinema-strong network share their failures as well as celebrate their successes.

The conference was covered session-by-session on the Europa Cinemas blog, including keynote speeches from Cristian Mungiu and panel discussions with UK exhibitors Showroom (Sheffield), Watershed (Bristol), HOME (Manchester), and Broadway (Nottingham).
The Europa Cinemas Awards
Since 2002, Europa Cinemas has awarded three exhibitors whose outstanding work deserves recognition. This year, the Elvire Popesco cinema in Bucharest, the Agrafka and Kika cinemas in Krakow and Lionello Cerri's Anteo cinemas in Milan picked up prizes.

Europa Cinemas launched its second major survey “Strategic Investments in the Future of Film” at this year’s conference. Based on a survey of 208 cinemas in 31 countries, the report takes a broad look at different investment models used in independent European cinemas, as well as the role of cinemas as community spaces.
