Warrior Women is set to be a 3 x 52 minute drama documentary series that uncovers the most skilled, ferocious and iconic women fighters of all time, from 5th century BC until today. Currently being filmed in Malta, Kazakhstan, West Africa, USA, Mongolia, Turkey, France, Austria and the UK, it is being shot in 4K and is due to be delivered in July 2017.
Urban Canyons is a Manchester-based, independent production company that specialises in history, music, arts and travel documentaries. This new series builds on Urban Canyons’ very successful Japanese series, also funded by Creative Europe and shot previously for Smithsonian Networks, UKTV and ZDF, amongst others.
The series is being co-produced by US-based Smithsonian Networks and German state broadcaster ZDF and has had pre-sales in Scandinavia, Switzerland, Austria, Slovenia, Spain and Belgium.
“This deal involving such a range of European broadcasters and vital support from Creative Europe proves how important inter-European co-operation has become in a market that is increasingly relying on co-production to produce high-end history programming.”
Sebastian Peiter, Managing Director of Urban Canyons
