Walter Presents is a video on demand service of UK's Channel 4, part of its All 4 online platform.
Launched in 2016, the service is dedicated to showcasing award winning foreign language drama, and is named after its curator Walter Iuzzolino, a passionate drama fan. The service was made available as an ad-free subscription service in the US in September 2017.
Jo McGrath, Co-founder of Walter Presents, Director of Marketing and Communications said:
“Creative Europe funding has made a significant difference to our launch in the US, increasing our visibility on platforms like Amazon and Roku, and generally helping us to position our service as cool, gripping and aspirational. Although Walter Presents is a unique service, it’s still hard to stand out in a crowded SVOD market, but the all-round support we’ve had from Creative Europe has definitely helped us to do that.”
The objective of Walter Present’s UK project is to attract a younger audience to watch more European TV drama, and help develop Channel 4’s overall audience and viability. Walter Presents launched in the USA in the hopes to attract many new customers for European TV drama – a traditionally difficult market to capture.
Walter Presents UK & International seeks to launch the service in countries outside of the UK and the US, as well as in non-English speaking territories, such as Italy and other key European territories. The international development will also see Walter Presents develop relationships in Asia, Latin America and Africa.
Walter Presents previously received funding under Creative Europe's Promotion of European Audiovisual Works Online scheme in 2017.
