Wanda Rutkiewicz was the first woman in history on K2 - the world most difficult mountain and the first Polish climber on Everest. In 1992 Wanda did not come back from an expedition and there is no proof of her death. Today Wanda would be 75 years old.
The Last Expedition follows Braidmade Films on their expedition to trace Wanda’s footsteps along her last journey to Nepal. Who was she and how did she convince herself and others of her immortality? Was she a conqueror of the highest peaks, or a fugitive for whom mountains were the last safe place, where she could hide from envy of the climbing community and her loneliness?
About Braidmade Films
Braidmade Films was set up by Monika Braid in 2006 to develop and produce independent films. Based in London and Cracow we are keen to work with international talent to produce films of high quality: fiction, documentaries, and experimental; films that relate to a universal human experience and appeal to viewers from various cultural backgrounds.
Braidmade Films acts as advisory body to Polish and British filmmakers wishing to form co-productions; matchmaking talent and projects. Having built its own growing database of talent, Braidmade Films’ aim is also to facilitate Polish productions in the UK and British projects in Poland and by doing so to stimulate both countries cooperation and exchange.
