Impact Producers Lab is a development of the global Good Pitch programme, which is a series of unique live events devised and organised by The Doc Society (previously BRITDOC).

The Good Pitch programme connects the world’s best social justice films with new allies and partners, brokering new funding and distribution opportunities. This model has been spreading around the world over the last eight years, as the global community looks for new and sustainable opportunities to support independent documentary filmmaking.

In that time, the media and cultural landscapes have shifted profoundly and more filmmakers have had the ambition to create impact with their work. The success of these filmmakers has created more interest and excitement in the unique role films can play in effecting social and environmental change.

Both in the US and Europe more funds are now available to pay for 'outreach and engagement' to ensure films reach and impact their target audiences. However, there is a shortage of professionals to handle this work. Just as films have producers to manage the creative and financial process from script to screen, some films now need specialised impact producers to take the film from completion to impact.

Impact Producers Lab specifically trains Impact Producers to take film campaigns from strategy through to planning, budgeting, fundraising through to execution and evaluation, with the goal to create real, lasting social impact. This is not classroom teaching but highly interactive and participatory combining keynote presentations with discussions, teamwork and group analysis of case studies.

On Creative Europe funding, Nicole van Schaik, Director of Development at Doc Society, said:

"Creative Europe support has been instrumental to secure funding from other partners, including national film institutes, private foundations and philanthropists."
