FRED Film Radio, the multilingual station dedicated to film festivals and independent films, is behind this initiative dedicated to building new audiences for European cinema.
From January to May 2015, secondary-school students (14-16 years old) in eight countries (Croatia, Germany, Iceland, Italy, France, Spain, Romania and the UK) will use a VOD platform to simultaneously watch four European films, selected as part of the European Parliament’s LUX Prize.
The screenings form part of a film literacy course developed in collaboration with FRED at School’s 14 European partners, including three universities. In addition to the screenings, students also produce radio features on the selected films. These features are then streamed as part of FRED Film Radio’s regular online programme offering, with participating students also voting for the FRED at School Award for Best Film.
FRED at School is fully accessible to hearing- and visual-impaired students through subtitles and scene-by-scene audio descriptions via smartphone apps.
