Professor Stephen Hawking thinks the human species will have to populate a new planet within 100 years if it is to survive. With climate change, overdue asteroid strikes, epidemics and population growth, our own planet is increasingly precarious.
In this landmark series, The Search for a New Earth (original title - Expedition New Earth) he enlists engineering expert Prof Danielle George and his own former student, Christophe Galfard, to find out if and how humans can reach for the stars and move to different planets.
Broadcast in the UK on BBC 2 in September 2017.
Norma Percy, Executive Producer, and Brian Lapping, Chairman & Exective producer said:
"Creative Europe’s Media Programme has encouraged Brook Lapping to build relationships with European and other international broadcasters as well as European production companies which benefits our documentaries both financially and editorially. We can approach interviewees including foreign leaders with projects that can honestly claim to be objective and multi-sided, not just the British POV."
Greg Sanderson, Executive Producer of Expedition New Earth/The Search for a New Earth and Managing Director Brook Lapping Productions, said:
"The impact of Creative Europe's financial support was immense, allowing us to maximise production value and provide viewers with a truly awe-inspiring visual experience. Without their support, the series would have been much more limited in scope and scale."
