MUBI is a curated online SVOD (Subscription Video On Demand) platform specialising in international arthouse cinema.
MUBI has received Creative Europe support for two consecutive years to increase the global visibility and accessibility of European cinema on VOD, and bolster MUBI’s longstanding commitment to European cinema.
Of the 1,015 films MUBI has programmed globally since September 2017, 64% were of EU origin, and they presented more than 40 'Specials' that included EU titles. In 2018, MUBI also launched a new Film Schools programme, reaching out to 180 schools via the CILECT network to offer MUBI as a free resource to 60,000 film students.
Speaking at Creative Europe Desk UK's Forum on International Working in 2017, Bobby Allen, VP of Content at MUBI, said:
"Creative Europe support new ideas online and trying to get traditional distributors to think about the digital market and that's really important, so this support for new technologies and business models is fundamental. We need innovation, creativity and investment and basically it's that foundation that allows us to take these extra risks."

On Creative Europe funding, Bobby said:
“With the generous support of Creative Europe, our theatrical releases have reached a wider UK audience and we are growing the audience for European cinema on a global basis. Our shared goal is to engage and expand the audience and Creative Europe provides the essential support to develop new and innovative strategies to secure the future of European Cinema.”
