Leeds International Film Festival presents over 270 screenings and events citywide every November. LIFF features five main programme sections: Official Selection, Cinema Versa (documentaries), Short Film City, Fanomenon (genre film), and Retrospective.
LIFF is a portal for audiences to discover the real world of film that exists beyond regular film exhibition. LIFF primarily supports outstanding new talent and established talent that has not received deserved exposure in the UK. LIFF considers narrative, documentary and animated films, in feature-length and short formats, and in multiple genres and from all countries.
LIFF is a qualifying film festival for the Academy Awards and the winning films in Short Film City’s Louis Le Prince International Short Film Competition and World Animation Award are eligible for the Academy’s Short Film Awards. The festival’s British and Yorkshire short film competitions are BAFTA qualifying.
Chris Fell, Director of Leeds International Film Festival said:
"One of our favourite parts of organising LIFF every year is sharing new films with audiences for the first time. Their response to the European selection is fantastic and long-term Creative Europe support has helped to make this relationship grow and thrive."
LIFF has received Creative Europe funding since 2000 through the previous two MEDIA sub-programmes, and has been supported through the current MEDIA programme in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017.
