VOD - The End of Cinema? Industry Session @ GFF
Creative Europe Desk UK - Scotland is partnering with Glasgow Film Festival to host an session on VOD as part of the Industry Focus at this year's festival.
With Netflix continuing to dominate headlines for its aggressive acquisition and distribution strategies, emerging filmmakers could be forgiven for thinking they are the only game in town. Work from Susanne Bier, Alfonso Cuaron and David Mackenzie have all recently had high-profile launches on the platform but questions remain about the opportunity for emerging talent; would those filmmakers have originally been discovered in this way?
And whilst other behemoths like Amazon and Apple also continue to focus on global reach, is a new opportunity opening up for more localised, niche and tailored digital offerings and audience building? Big streamers like Amazon and Netflix are increasingly commissioning local content while new EU laws push VODs to devote at least 30% of their on-demand libraries to local content. Are there platforms and strategies that enable producers and filmmakers to more effectively profile their work in the VOD space and to launch and sustain their careers? These are some of the questions that Alex Stolz will be putting to our panel of experts from both production and distribution as we discuss the future of VOD and film.
Confirmed panellists include:
- Rachel Robey, Wellington Films
- Andreas Wildfang, EYZ Media
- Lee Shelton, Curzon
- Helene Aurø, REinvent Studios.
